Bhubaneswar: A court in Jajpur on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for killing his father five years ago.
District and Sessions Judge Amrut Ranjan Nanda convicted Gurucharan Behera, a resident of Bachhala village under Bari police limits, and awarded him life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. In the event of non-payment, Behera will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
According to Public Prosecutor Samarendra Das, the court pronounced the judgment after examining 17 witnesses and 18 related documents during the course of the trial.
The incident occurred on the night of September 29, 2020, when Behera killed his father following a domestic dispute. He was arrested after the elder son of the deceased lodged a complaint with the police.
