Man Gets Life Term For Killing Minor Girl After Rape Bid

Sundargarh: A Special POSCO court convicted a person and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment for killing a minor girl after attempting to rape her.

The convict has been identified as Sumit Minj.

According to sources, an 11-year-old girl from Kantabahal village under Talasara village in Sundargarh district was playing with her friends on February 2, 2017, when Sumit took her to a nearby jungle and attempted to outrage her modesty.

As the minor girl screamed for help, Sumit tried to strangulate her. Sumit later stoned her to death after failing to kill her through strangulation. Sumit was so heinous that he beheaded the body of the minor girl.

Hearing the case, the Posco Court in Sundargarh awarded life imprisonment to the convict. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 20,000 on the convict. The convict would have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment if he fails to submit the fine amount.

Public prosecutor Debasis Mishra said, “The victim’s father had filed a missing complaint a day after the incident following which police recovered the victim’s headless body from the nearby forest.  Judge Mahendra Kumar Sutradhar pronounced the order after hearing the statements of 26 witnesses.
