Bhubaneswar: A court in Berhampur today awarded life term for murdering his wife near Ashoka cinema hall under Aska police limits in Ganjam district.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict. He will undergo four months more imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
The convict, Simanchal Mishra who was staying in a rented house near Ashoka cinema hall in Aska had murdered his wife by stabbing her multiple times.
Simanchal, a native of Panchasinghapur Sasan under Dharakote police limits, used to beat his wife in inebriated condition.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge court in Berhampur city sentenced today a man to life imprisonment for stabbing his wife to death in Ganjam district. The convict man identified as Simanchal Mishra resides in a rented house near Ashoka cinema hall under Aska police limits.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict along with the lifer. The man will undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for four months more, in case he fails to pay the fine amount.
On the night of Kumar Purnima (October 9, 2023), Simanchal had planned to eliminate her. Accordingly, he stabbed his wife with a sharp knife following which she died on the spot. He committed the crime in absence of his family members.
Police had arrested him next day and forwarded to court.
