Baripada: The Additional District & Sessions Judge here on Wednesday sentenced one Sukdev Singh of Talapokharia village under Kaptipada police limits of Mayurbhanj district to life imprisonment after convicting him for the murder of his father and brother.
In addition to that, the Judge slapped a fine of Rs 8,000 on Singh. On default to pay the fine Singh has to undergo imprisonment for another six months, the Judge ruled in his sentence.
“The court today sentenced Sukdev Singh of Talapokharia village under Kaptipada police limits to life imprisonment. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 8,000 on Singh,” informed Additional Public Prosecutor Krushna Chandra Das.
Das said that in 2014 on October 18 at around 11.30 AM Singh in front of his house brutally slashed the neck of his brother with an axe and hit his father on the head with the same axe leading to their instantaneous death on the spot.
The widow of Singh’s brother had lodged a written complaint over the matter at the Kaptipada police station following which Singh was arrested by the police, Das added.
Das said that the court awarded the sentence after examining 14 witnesses, a medical report, and other pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution.
