Bhubaneswar: A 43-year-old man was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.
The special POCSO court in Cuttack also directed the district Legal Cell Authority to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to the minor girl.
The court in its order stated that the girl is entitled to get compensation “under Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme, for the loss and injuries suffered by her due to the crime committed against her and its future ramifications”.
On the other hand, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
The convict, a mechanic by profession is a resident of Bihar. He had raped the girl in 2023 following which the girl’s mother had lodged a complaint with police. Since then, he had been in jail as an undertrial prisoner.
