Rairakhol (Sambalpur): In a shocking incident, a man was brutally murdered in broad daylight in Ganja Bahal village under the Kisinda police limits of Naktideul block in Sambalpur district on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Murlidhar Dhal, was attacked with an axe by Giridhari Sahu, a resident of the same village, over a longstanding family dispute stemming from the former’s son’s love marriage with Giridhari’s daughter.
According to reports, the conflict began nearly four years ago when Murlidhar’s son, Kelo, married Giridhari’s daughter following a love affair.
Giridhari had opposed the marriage from the beginning and had repeatedly threatened Murlidhar with dire consequences, even had warned that he would kill him.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday around noon. Murlidhar was returning home alone on his bike from Kanchanpur when Giridhari, lying in wait near the New Ganja Bahal Primary School, attacked him with an axe. Giridhari struck Murlidhar multiple times on his chest, neck, and thigh, leading to his immediate death at the scene.
Upon receiving the information, Kisinda police arrived at the spot, seized the body, and arrested Giridhari from his house. A scientific team also reached the scene to conduct an investigation. The body has been sent to the Rairakhol Sub Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
