Bargarh: A man was brutally murdered at the Hi-Tech Petrol Pump in Haldipali village under Sohela police limits of Bargarh district on Thursday, allegedly over a three-year-old enmity.
The deceased, identified as Balistha Pradhan, was sitting on a plastic chair inside the petrol pump premises and using his mobile phone when he was suddenly attacked by Lipu Sahu, a youth from Garbhana village.
Police said the accused repeatedly struck Balistha with an axe—reportedly delivering as many as 16 blows—before fleeing the spot.
The entire incident has been captured by the CCTV installed at the petrol pump.
Severely injured, Balistha succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Following the incident, enraged locals staged a road blockade at the site, demanding justice.
Sohela police rushed to the location to pacify the protesters and restore normalcy.
The accused has been apprehended and detained at the police station.
