Basta: A man on Tuesday allegedly hacked to death his father-in-law with a bhujali (machete) and injured three others over a family feud at Kusuda village under Kamarda police limits in Balasore district.
The deceased has been identified as Susanta Mahuri of Kusuda village. The accused Jaga Mahuri has been detained by Kamarda police.
Jaga’s wife, his sister-in-law and mother-in-law who were also allegedly attacked by Jaga are critical and have been admitted to a hospital at Jaleswar by family members.
According to reports, Jaga was married to Susant Mahuri’s daughter four years back. The husband and wife had a strained relationship and often ended up quarrelling with each other.
On Rakhi Purnima, Jaga’s wife was on a visit to her father’s place and was supposed to return to her in-law’s place on Sunday. However, for some unavoidable reason, she failed to return to her in-law’s place on the appointed day.
Angered over his wife’s overstay, Jaga reached his in-law’s place today in the morning and allegedly thrashed his wife.
As his in-laws asked Jaga to refrain from beating his wife, the former pulled out the bhujali he had brought with him and attacked them.
While Jaga’s father-in-law Susanta died in the attack, his wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law sustained critical injuries and have been hospitalised at GK Bhat Hospital in Jaleswar after being rescued by other members of the family.
Police have detained Jaga and further investigation into the matter is underway.
