Bhubaneswar: In a ghastly incident, a man broke into a house of his kin and allegedly hacked his sister-in-law and nephew to death in Dalkibahal village under Gobindpur police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district late Thursday night.

While the deceased was identified as Purnima Ping and her two-year-old son Yenshu Ping, police have detained the accused Lochan Ping.

According to reports, Purnima and her son Yenshu were sleeping in their room last night when Lochan broke the door and entered their room. The accused first killed Purnima with a sharp weapon and then Yenshu, who was sleeping beside his mother. Lochan fled the scene after committing the crime.

When the villagers came to know about the horrendous murders, they informed the police about it. On their part, the police recovered the bodies of Purnima and Yenshu and sent them for autopsy. They also detained the accused Lochan for interrogation.

While it is yet to be ascertained why Lochan killed his sister-in-law and nephew, the police suspect that it could be a fall-out of a family dispute.

Incidentally, Purnima’s husband was not at home at the time of the murder.
