Baripada: In a tragic incident, a man allegedly killed his wife with an axe after she reportedly refused to give him money for liquor in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Padan Dehury, has been arrested by Rairangpur police and forwarded to court. Police have seized Kaushalya’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
According to reports, Padan Dehury, a resident of Salghati village in Brahamanigaon panchayat under the Bangriposhi police station, was impoverished. He earned his livelihood as a labourer and by selling firewood gathered from the forest. Padan and Kaushalya were married and lived a contented life.
On Wednesday, the couple was on their way to Kadamdiha village when Padan asked Kaushalya for money to buy liquor.
Kaushalya refused, leading to an altercation that escalated. In a fit of rage, Padan attacked Kaushalya with an axe he was carrying, causing her immediate death.
While attempting to flee the scene, Padan was apprehended by locals. Villagers informed the Rairangpur police, who arrived at the scene, seized Kaushalya’s body for post-mortem, and took Padan into custody.
