Job Scam In Berhampur

Berhampur: A youth from Ganjam district has been arrested for allegedly duping job seekers from Punjab of over Rs 30 lakh by promising them positions as Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.

The accused, identified as Kanha Patra, is a resident of Sriram Nagar in Berhampur under Nimakhandi police limits.

According to reports, Patra posed as an Inspector General (IG) officer and used social media platforms, particularly Instagram, to target aspiring candidates.

He allegedly offered them the opportunity to join the IPS in exchange for large sums of money.

One victim from Punjab was reportedly lured into paying more than Rs 30 lakh, both in cash and through online payment methods.

The scam came to light when the victim filed a complaint with local authorities in West Bengal, leading to a coordinated investigation between the West Bengal Police and Berhampur Police.

Following the investigation, Patra was arrested by the Nimakhandi Police at his residence. He has since been taken into custody by the West Bengal Police for a five-day remand to facilitate further investigation into the case.
