Man Held For Stealing

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from an auto-rickshaw driver in the city.

The accused has been identified as Mithun Paikray of Paikray Sahi near Palamandap in Baramunda, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by Rankanidhi Sahoo, an auto driver.

According to sources, the incident occurred on May 19 when Sahoo was ferrying passengers from Rasulgarh to Baramunda. During the ride, Paikray approached the driver and requested his mobile phone under the pretext of making an urgent call. Trusting him, Sahoo handed over the device, but Paikray allegedly fled with the phone soon after.

Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation and, acting on a tip-off, raided Paikray’s residence. He was arrested and 25 Android mobile phones, including the stolen device, were seized from his possession.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. He has been booked under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
