Bhadrak: Bhadrak police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife and five-year-old son over a family dispute at Kushagadia village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in the district.
The accused, Umakant Nayak, is a resident of Dolapadi village under the Bonth police limits of Bhadrak.
According to reports, Umakant, who works as a driver in Pesa, has been residing at Kushagadia village for the last three years.
Umesh and his wife were not on good terms and often fought over trifle issues. He was an alcohol addict and after returning home he used to pick up a fight with his wife and even beat his wife and son regularly.
The couple had an argument on Sunday night and, in a fit of rage, Umesh attacked his wife. He allegedly strangled her to death and also killed his minor son.
When the accused tried to flee the spot, villagers nabbed him and handed over Umakant to the police. On their arrival, Bhandaripokhari police seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. They also arrested Umesh who was reportedly hiding in the village.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
