Angul: A man was today arrested on charges of killing his 13-day old daughter by throwing her into an abandoned well at Chhanchunia village under Khamar police limits in the district.

The accused identified as Dusashan Sahoo confessed to his crime during police interrogation after body of the girl, who was missing since July 6, was recovered from the well.

"I already have a daughter and despite all my attempts a second daugther was born to my wife. I being the sole bread earner for my family and toiling hard as a driver was troubled how I will bring up two daughters. Amidst all the stress I took the child when none were at home and threw her in the well," said Dusashan.

During course of investigation police found that Dusashan had approached a quack in 2017 in a bid to get a son and had also conducted ultrasound of his wife twice.

However, on June 24, another daughter was born to him.

Dusashan hatched the conspiracy on night of July 5. On the fateful day, his wife after massage of the child had left it on the verandah and gone inside their house for some work. Finding nobody else around, Dusashan picked the child and threw her into the well and later filed a missing complaint with the police.

The body of the child was recovered after a massive search operation by police with support of villagers.
