Lightning Strikes

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a man died and his son went missing after lightning struck their fishing boat off the coast of Kendrapara district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Parida, while his missing son is Manash Parida—both residents of Tantiapal village under Mahakalapada police limits.

According to reports, the duo had ventured into the Bay of Bengal for fishing on Saturday evening. As they were returning to shore amidst heavy rain and lightning, a bolt struck their boat. Bijay died on the spot, while Manash was swept away and is feared drowned.

On receiving information, fire personnel and local police launched a rescue operation. Bijay’s body and the boat were recovered, but Manash remained untraceable till the time of filing this report.

A search operation is underway.
