Bolangir: One person was killed, while his wife and daughter sustained critical injuries after an ambulance rammed into their vehicle in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Khusiram Mahanand, a resident of Bhalujuri village in Bolangir district.
According to reports, Khusiram Mahanand was heading to Bolangir from Patnagarh in his car along with his wife and daughter. On the way, Khusiram stopped his car near Patnagarh police station on Bolangir-Patnagarh road at around 10.20 pm to talk to someone over the phone. He went towards the rear end of the vehicle and took a call when a speeding ambulance rammed into them.
All three suffered critical injuries in the crash and were rushed to a nearby medical facility where Khusiram succumbed to his injuries. His wife and daughter are critical and undergoing treatment.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation. Tension prevailed in the area following the accident as locals set up a road blockade demanding compensation for the affected family.
