Nabarangpur: In a shocking incident, an elderly man was brutally killed by his son in Badabasini village under Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Biswanath Rajgond, allegedly attacked his 80-year-old father, Sadhu Rajgond, with an axe while he was asleep at home.
According to reports, Biswanath struck his father multiple times on the chest, hands, and legs, leaving him severely injured and bleeding profusely.
Hearing Sadhu’s cries, his daughter Lakshmi Durua rushed to the spot and immediately took him to the Umerkote Sub-Divisional Health Centre. However, doctors declared him dead while undergoing treatment.
Following a written complaint, Umerkote Police reached the health centre, seized the axe used in the crime, and arrested the accused son. The police have also sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation into the incident.
While the exact motive behind the murder remains unclear, preliminary inquiries suggest that it could be linked to a family dispute or land-related issue.
