Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly murdered his wife over suspicion of an extra-marital affair and later died by suicide at Gaiba village under Serango police limits in Gajapati district.
The accused has been identified as Narendra Paika, is said to have strangled his wife Monalisa on Monday morning.
He later recorded a video confessing to the crime, which has since gone viral on social media. By evening, his body was found hanging from a tree in a nearby forested area.
According to reports, Monalisa and Narendra had married after a love relationship and were living together at her in-laws’ house. However, frequent disputes reportedly erupted between them following the marriage, allegedly due to suspicions of infidelity.
In the video, Narendra accused Monalisa of being involved in a relationship with another man, allegedly with the support of her mother.
“Despite having a husband, she was looking for someone else. I will now ruin her life so that she cries for the rest of it. I am not angry, just hurt. You lied to me. I asked you several times about your affairs, but you always denied them,” he said.
Following the incident, police reached the spot, recovered both bodies, and sent them for postmortem.
An investigation is underway.
