Keonjhar: A person died after being attacked by a bear at Turkipada village of Karichandanpur block under Daitari Range in Keonjhar district, on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Pabana Juanga.
As per reports, Pabana confronted bears while he had gone to pick mushrooms. The animal attacked Pabana, causing severe injuries to his face and legs.
Local villagers attempted to chase the bear away but were unsuccessful. Later, villagers rescued Pabana and rushed him to the main road, from where he was rushed to the Harichandanpur Community Health Centre in an ambulance. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital. However, he died on his way to the hospital.
Brahmanipal Range Officer Priyadarshini Sahu, Banapala Dibakar Munda, and Forest Protection Officer Suresh Chandra Mahanta visited the spot and initiated an investigation. The forest officials assured the deceased’s family of immediate government assistance.
