Brutal Murder In Kalahandi

Kalahandi: Police on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old man from Goa for allegedly killing a 65-year-old villager in Depur under Kalahandi Sadar tehsil in Kalahandi district.

The arrested man has been identified as Lingaraja Majhi of Depur village, is said to have murdered Roop Singh Majhi on May 18.

According to sources, after committing the crime, Lingaraja carried the body on his shoulders to the village pond, where he severed the victim’s head and buried both parts separately underwater.

Following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family at Kalampur police station, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Lingaraja was tracked down and arrested in Goa. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and later led the police to the scene during a crime scene reconstruction.

A joint team from Junagarh, Jaipatna, and Kalampur police stations, assisted by the Balangir Disaster Rapid Action Force (DRAF) and fire services personnel, recovered the victim’s body from the pond. However, the search for the head is still underway.

“Only the body has been recovered so far. The accused revealed that he disposed of the head in the same pond. Our team is continuing the search,” said Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mukti Kumar Kulu.
