Balasore: A woman and her daughter were kicked out of their house by her husband and in-laws because of their dark complexion. Now the duo is sitting on a hungry stomach in front of the house at Tadada village under Singla police limits in Balasore district.
Reportedly, Chandan Das of the village married Jyotsna Das of Jantikapal village under Basta block of the district in 2013. Two years after the marriage, a daughter was born to them. Because of the dark complexion of the girl, Jyotsna became a victim of the anger of her in-laws.
Jyotsna was subjected to physical and mental torture from that day. Villagers have also seen the mother and daughter being thrashed by her in-laws. They were even deprived of food or drink.
On this Ganesh Puja, Jyotsna’s daughter Deepali fell ill. She admitted the girl to the district headquarters hospital with the help of a villager. After the girl recovered and they returned home on Wednesday, Chandan did not let her enter the house and locked the gate.
Both mother and daughter sat in front of the house and had to spend the night in a nearby Shiva temple. Some villagers provided them with food to eat. Yesterday when they again tried to enter the house, Chandan beat her and locked the gate.
Jyotsna alleged that Chandan is having an affair with a girl in Mumbai where he is working. He has been torturing her and her daughter because of their dark complexion. When the Sarpanch also approached Chandan, he refused to let Jyotsna enter the house.
