Bhubaneswar: A man was stripped naked, tied up, brutally beaten, and paraded through the streets in Mayurbhanj district on allegations of maintaining a relationship with a minor girl.
The relationship had previously sparked disputes, leading to a police case. On January 2, the girl’s relatives spotted the pair meeting and intervened, triggering an uproar.
A mob quickly gathered, vandalising the man’s car before stripping him, tying his hands, and forcing him to walk publicly in humiliation. The assault was recorded on mobile phones, and the video rapidly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.
The victim’s family later lodged a formal complaint, highlighting severe public humiliation and physical assault. They demanded swift arrests of all involved and submitted petitions to the District Collector, Additional District Collector, Deputy District Collector, Additional SP, SDPO, and the Human Rights Commission.
Responding promptly, officials from Bahalda police station arrested two individuals linked to the mob attack and presented them in court. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend others.
