Koraput: Koraput Additional District & Sessions Judge today sentenced three persons of a family to life imprisonment for the murder of a bride.
Those convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment are the deceased’s father-in-law Tarini Pradhan; her mother-in-law Malati Pradhani; and her husband Santosh Kumar Pradhani. They all hail from Tikira Sahi of Koraput.
However, two out of the five accused were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence against them. They are Ganapati Naik and Suresh Chandra Dora.
The judge pronounced the sentence after examining depositions made by 13 witnesses.
According to the proceedings of the case, in 2015 one Subash Dandasena of Banabharati Colony had lodged a report with Koraput Town Police Station that his sister Snehalata Dandsena has been murdered by her in-laws.
Following the report, deceased Snehalata’s father-in-law Tarini Pradhan; her mother-in-law Malati Pradhani; and her husband Santosh Kumar Pradhani, Ganapati Naik and Suresh Chandra Dora were arrested by the police.
According to the chargesheet filed by the police, Tarini Pradhan had administered a Lariago injection to Snehalata and had thrashed her with a stick leading to her death. Snehalata’s husband Santosh Kumar Pradhani and her mother-in-law Malati Pradhani had helped Tarini Pradhan in his act.
