Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a man allegedly poisoned his wife to death following a family dispute at Baliamba village under Bhapur police outpost in Dhenkanal.
The victim identified as Amita Rana and her husband Prashant are survived by two minor sons.
Prashant had been keeping extramarital affairs with another woman which was opposed by his wife Amita. Following the dispute, Prashant used to torture his wife.
Amita’s family members alleged that he frequently beat her, demanding dowry of Rs 3 lakhs. The situation escalated when Amita opposed Prashant’s extramarital affair, leading to a fatal confrontation.
On the fateful day, Prashant brutally beat Amita and then forced her to consume pesticides. She died at Sankarpur Community Health Center (CHC).
Premananda Pradhan, father of the victim, lodged the complaint at Bhapur police outpost under Sadar police station in Dhenkanal. Based on his complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation, outpost officer Shantanu Pradhan said.
The extra-marital affair angle is also being investigated, he added.
