Bhubaneswar: Ramchandra Majhi of Bhikipur village under Laxminagar Panchayat in Rasulpur block of Jajpur district has kept away from rice for 42 years following a spat with his wife.
Ramchandra, a daily wager and a scuffle with his wife as she forgot to prepare his meal. Enraged by the argument, 42 years back, the husband pledged not to eat rice, ever.
From that day onwards he built a hut a few yards away from home and started living there. A daily wager, Ramchandra sells dried fish to earn a living when he does not have work. His family comprises of his wife, five daughters and two sons.
Puffed rice has become his main diet. While his daughters have long been married off, his wife Sita lives with her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren in their old house.
Though he lives alone, Ramchandra gives money to his wife for maintaining the family all these years, reports stated.
