Nabarangpur: A man has been detained by his in-laws for allegedly selling his 7-month-old son for Rs 10,000. Such an incident has occurred at Pujariguda village under Burja panchayat in Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district.
Reportedly on Monday, Sagaram Lohar of the village along with wife Sanmati and 7-month-old son had visited Maa Pendrani Temple at Umerkote where he sold the child to one Ramesh, a resident of Burja village.
Sagaram beat Sanmati when she opposed the act and took the child forcibly from her and gave it over to Ramesh, who left the place along with two of his associates in a Bolero.
Later, Sagaram took Sanmati to her paternal house at Gauntiaguda under Bhikhya panchayat of the district and forced her to tell a lie that the child is dead.
However, family members of Sanmati grew suspicious and upon insistence she revealed the whole incident following which Sagaram’s in-laws tied him to a pole and thrashed him.
Meanwhile, Sanmati has lodged a complaint in this regard at Umerkote police station.
