Jeypore (Koraput):  A Special POCSO Court in Jeypore of Koraput district has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the abduction and rape of a minor girl in 2024.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict, Pabitra Mudrika, a resident of Sannaringipanga village in Rayagada district, with an additional 10 months of imprisonment in case of non-payment.

The verdict was based on the testimony of 11 witnesses and 20 documents presented during the trial. The court further directed the government to provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the victim through the Legal Services Authority.

The victim had previously received Rs 1 lakh as interim compensation during the case proceedings. According to reports, the incident occurred on January 7, 2024, in the Koraput Sadar police station area. The minor, who was staying at her uncle’s house while her family was away, was lured to Mudrika’s residence under the pretext of meeting his sick sister. The accused then held her captive and repeatedly raped her.

Following a written complaint by the victim’s uncle, a case was registered at Koraput Sadar police station. The minor was rescued, and Mudrika was arrested and brought to trial.
