Phulbani: The Special POCSO Court here on Wednesday sentenced one Ashish Kumar Nayak to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for abducting and raping a minor girl in 2020.
On default to pay the fine, Ashish has to undergo another six months of imprisonment, the court said in its verdict.
The court further ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the victim.
According to details of the case, on January 12, 2020, while the minor girl had gone to the market at around 7.00 AM, finding her alone, Ashish forcibly abducted her and claimed that he had married her. The victim’s parents lodged a complaint in this connection at Nuagaon police station.
On the basis of the complaint Nuagaon police registered a case under POCSO Act and following his arrest produced him in the court.
The Phulbani Special POCSO Court conducted a hearing on the matter taking into account statements of 15 witnesses, medical report and other pieces of evidence and pronounced the verdict.
