Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze over a domestic dispute in Narayanpur village under Baliapal police station in Balasore district.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, left the woman and her family members, including her parents and brother, critically injured as they tried to intervene.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Karunakara Kabi, had married Rajendra Samantray’s daughter 7 years ago, and they have two children together. However, their marriage was marred by disputes, leading to the wife seeking legal help.
She had fled to her parents’ home a month ago, unable to bear the torture. On Tuesday night, her husband Karunakara arrived at her parents’ home, abused her, and poured petrol on her, setting her ablaze. When her family members intervened, he also poured petrol on them, leaving them severely burned.
Listening to screams, locals apprehended Karunakara and handed him over to the police.
The injured were rushed to Pratappur Community Health Centre. As their condition deteriorated, they were shifted Balasore District Headquarters Hospital.
Police have meanwhile launched an investigation into the incident.
