Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly shot his elder sister dead at Somagiri village under Pandapada police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Friday.

While the deceased has been identified as Malati Barik, the accused is her brother Prasanna Barik.

According to reports, Prasanna worked as a gunman with a security service provider and possessed a licensed gun.

Malati was unmarried and was staying with Prasanna’s family. For the last few days, Prasanna was unwell and on Friday he asked his sister for some money for his treatment as his wife was away. However, his sister refused to give him any money saying that he should ask his wife for money for his treatment.

Hearing this, Prasanna lost his cool and opened fire at his sister with his licensed gun. Soon neighbours rushed to their house and saw Malati lying in a pool of blood. They rushed her to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the doctors declared her ‘brought dead’.

On being informed, Pandapada police personnel reached the village, seized Prasanna’s gun, and took him to the police station.

The police have launched an investigation into the case.
