Kendrapara: A man was shot dead and his wife and son were critically injured in Babakarpur village under Mahakalpada police limits in Kendrapara district when miscreants barged into their house and rained bullets on them in broad daylight today.
The deceased has been identified as Arvind Mishra (72).
While Arvind succumbed to his injuries on the spot his wife Minati Mishra and son Subhakesh (Kanha) have been critically injured.
They were initially rushed to the district headquarters hospital here and were shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack as their health condition deteriorated.
According to reports, at around 3 PM two miscreants inquired about Subhakesh at his house. When Subhakesh came out of his house, the miscreants fired at him. On hearing a loud noise outside their house, Arvind and Minati came out of their house and were hit by the bullets fired by the miscreants.
The two miscreants who were fleeing from the spot after the firing were overpowered by the villagers and thrashed.
Police have detained the two miscreants and are interrogating them.
