Polasara (Ganjam): A man was shot dead and his daughter sustained bullet injuries on Wednesday after they were fired at by the latter’s brother-in-law at Block Chhak here in Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Bijay Behera (62) of Kumanda village of Khallikote area in Ganjam district.
The accused identified as Prasanta Behera has been arrested by Polasara police from Hinjili. Police have seized a firearm from his possession.
According to reports, Bijay Behera was on a visit to his daughter’s in-laws’ place here.
While Bijay Behera and others were engaged in a discussion over a family dispute, all of a sudden his daughter’s brother-in-law Prasanta Behera pulled out a firearm and shot him in the chest.
Bijay Behera collapsed on the spot. His daughter Gayatri Behera who rushed towards him also sustained a bullet injury on her hand. The accused Prasanta Behera, however, managed to flee the spot.
The father-daughter duo was rushed to the Community Health Centre here where father Bijay Behera was declared dead by the attending doctors.
Meanwhile, Polasara police have arrested the accused Prasanta Behera from Hinjili and seized a firearm from him.
