Dhenkanal: In a barbaric incident, unidentified miscreants reportedly stoned a youth to death in Rupabeda village under Kankadahad police limits of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Gagan Naik of Rupabeda village.
According to Gagan’s wife, her husband was working as a labourer in the local stone quarry. While Gagan and his wife were returning to his village Rupabeda on Wednesday evening, some miscreants intercepted them near a bridge on the outskirts of their village with the intention of looting them.
When Gagan confronted the miscreants, he was allegedly beaten and stoned brutally in front of his wife. The miscreants also attacked his wife and beat her up. However, she somehow managed to save herself and inform the matter to her family.
The family members rushed Gagan to a hospital in Kamakshyanagar where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
On being informed, the Kankadahad police reached the Kamakshyanagar hospital and seized Gagan’s body. The police have also registered a case on the basis of a complaint filed by Gagan’s wife who is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
