Athagarh: An elderly man was stoned to death by his younger brother reportedly due to a family dispute
In Rasarshikpur area under Athagarh police station limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Pradhan (50).
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 3.45 pm on Sunday when Jagannath was sleeping under a tree near the Saraswati Children’s Temple. His younger brother Tukuna Pradhan arrived at the spot and crushed Jagannath to death with a stone. After the murder, the accused Jagannath to Athagarh Medical Center in an ambulance but the doctors there declared him brought dead.
On being informed, Athagarh police arrived at the medical center and detained in Ashtgarh police station Tukuna for interrogation. The police are now going through the CCTV to ascertain what occurred on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Bishi, SDO (Athagarh), told the media that Jagannath and his brother Tukuna were locked in a family dispute over landed property for a long. On Sunday, Jagannath had a verbal dispute with Tukuna’s wife and when his brother learned about it, he rushed to the spot where Jagannath was sleeping. In a fit of anger, he hit his elder brother with a stone killing him on the spot.
