Bhadrak: In a gruesome incident, a youth sustained critical burns after a miscreant threw acid on him at Basudevpur in Bhadrak district in the wee hours of Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Jagabandhu, son of Sanatan Palai, a resident of Ramachandrapur village under Laxmidaspur panchayat in Basudevpur block.
According to reports, a miscreant threw acid on Jagabandhu around 3 am on Saturday while he was asleep at his home.
The perpetrator, who is yet to be identified, fled the scene after throwing acid on Jagabandhu, leaving the latter to writhe in pain.
Jagabandhu’s family members rescued him after he screamed in pain. He was initially rushed to Basudevpur Community Health Centre in a critical condition. Jagabandhu was later shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.
Upon being informed, Naikanidihi police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrator and the motive behind the attack.
Also, Bhadrak Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer has visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
