Bhubaneswar: A youth was trampled to death and another injured in an elephant attack on a forest road near Khairasahi village under Rasol police station limits in Dhenkanal district on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Hadibandhu Bhoi(45), while the injured, Fakir Padhan (55), was rescued and immediately taken to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (IDHH) for treatment.
According to reports, both men had gone to a nearby pond to relieve themselves around 8 pm when the wild elephant suddenly charged at them. Bhoi succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Padhan was saved by prompt intervention from forest department personnel.
The forest authorities have launched an investigation and are taking necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
