Bhadrak: Chandbali police have arrested the brother of the prime accused in cameraman Manas Swain murder case. The man identified as Parameswar Rout is the brother of Sarmista Rout, editor of fortnightly magazine Sampurna. She also ran a web channel for which Swain used to work.
Parameswar was held in Vijaywada and brought to Bhadrak on Tuesday. After hours of interrogation he was arrested today afternoon, the police said. According to the police, Parameswar aided Sarmista’s escape after she was named by the police as the prime accused in Manas Swain murder case.
Parameswar was produced before the court of JMFC, Chandbali who rejected his bail plea. He has been sent to judicial custody for 14-days. On the other hand, a police team carried out raids on the office of Sampurna magazine which was run by Sarmista, prime accused in this case.
The Crime Branch has taken over investigation of this case following the orders of DGP Sunil Bansal on Wednesday. ADGP Crime Branch Sanjeeb Panda said as the events in this crime took place in different districts, and the matter being sensitive, the case has been handed over to the CB.
