Maneka Gandhi Intervenes To Rescue Abandoned Horse In Paradeep

Paradeep: A horse abandoned by its owner in Paradeep got a new life after the intervention of politician-cum-animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi, kudos to the efforts of a resident of the port town who alerted her about the equine’s plight.

Reportedly, the horse’s owner used to earn a living by giving tourists a ride on its back at the Paradeep Sea Beach. However, suspectedly due to the old age of the horse or loss in sources of income due to COVID-19, he abandoned it.

Subsequently, the horse started feeding on garbage dumped by people, which included plastic and polythene bags. As a result, the health of the horse started to deteriorate, which caught the attention of a resident Annapurna Mohanty.

On January 10, Mohanty in an email to Gandhi, who is also the Chairperson of People For Animals (PFA), apprised about the horse and asked her to rescue it. A day after, Gandhi intimated the activists of her organisation in Bhubaneswar.

Acting immediately, the PFA team reached Paradeep and rescued the horse from Badapadia area. PFA Bhubaneswar secretary Jiban Ballav Das informed that their organisation will now take total care of the horse including its treatment.
