Cuttack: Mangalabag police in Cuttack city have detected and frozen around 80 fixed deposit (FD) accounts of fake tantrik Maulana Kaifi Khan.
“Today is the third day of our taking him on remand. In the last two days of our interrogation, we have detected and frozen his around 80 fixed deposits with Sahara which have matured and are valued at Rs 16.34 lakh. We have also detected three recurring deposit accounts, and other fixed deposit accounts of his,” informed Sudhansu Bhushan Jena, IIC Mangalabag police station briefing reporters here today.
Jena revealed that the police have also detected a plot of land in his name at Pira Bazaar in Salipur-Paga.
“We have detected a plot of land (property)belonging to him at Pira Bazaar in Salipur-Paga area. He has claimed that he has inherited the property from his father. We are verifying the details. We had earlier seized his three cars-Verna, Breeza, Wagon-R, and a motorcycle-Bullet. That apart we have seized a Wagon-R car, RX-5, and a scooty,” said Jena.
The IIC said that 3-4 associates of Khan will be arrested soon.
He said that Khan has spent around Rs 13-14 lakh on air travel and has lived a lavish lifestyle.
Jena said that Khan had told that his earning of Rs 6000-7000 as a maulana in a mosque was too meager to fulfill his desire of giving a better life to his family-taking his parents, and wife in car, visiting places, etc and hence he took to conning people to earn extra bucks.
Khan was recently arrested based on the complaint filed by a woman who accused him of duping her to the tune of Rs 62 lakh on the pretext of warding off negative energy and digging out hidden treasure from her house.
