Dense fog envelopes Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Many places in Odisha were covered by a blanket of dense fog on Monday morning reducing visibility drastically. Visibility in the state capital dropped to around 20 metres.

Bomikal, Rasulgarh and Palasuni areas in Bhubaneswar were covered by very dense fog from 4.30 am onwards, diminishing the visibility to anything between 20 and 50 metres.

The commuters, especially on National Highway-16 found it difficult to move on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road owing to the drop visibility this morning. Similarly, morning walkers, street vendors and others were affected due to the poor visibilities in the early hours of the day.

The India Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has issued a yellow warning of dense fog at isolated places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

Meanwhile, the MeT has predicted rain in several districts of Odisha for two days starting January 17. Light rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur on January 17.

Similarly, light rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jajpur on January 18 while dry weather will prevail over the remaining districts, the IMD said.

“There will be no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) over the districts of Odisha during the next four-five days,” said the IMD.
