Bhubaneswar: After a massive gunfire with Maoists, the security forces recovered a large quantity of naxal articles and ammunition from Gandhamardan forest in Bargarh district.
The recovered articles include detonator, wire, battery, naxal literature, radioset, cordex wire, medicines, man pack charger and number of household articles like utensils, clothes etc.
A joint team of Odisha police comprising SOG and DVF had an exchange of fire with Maoists in Gandhamardan hill on Monday evening.
After getting intelligence inputs about the presence of some ultras in the forest, a joint team reached the spot for a search operation. On seeing the security forces, the ultras opened fire at them. In order to save their lives, security forces also retaliated.
However, Maoists managed to flee from that area taking advantage of dense forest and hilly terrain.
As per sources, the Maoists have become active in the area as the state administration focused on preparation lok sabha and Assembly election. The extremists might attempt to disrupt the poll process in Bargarh district.
