Maoist Camp Busted After Encounter In Kandhamal

Phulbani: Security forces busted a Maoist camp following an encounter at Bireni forest under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district, informed SP Vinit Agarwal on Sunday.

Two country-made guns, one radio, medicines, food, clothes and other articles used by the Maoists have been recovered from the camp.

Reportedly, a team of the SOG and DVF jawans had launched an anti-Naxal operation on December 15 after getting information about the presence of some Maoists in the forest.

While combing the forest, around eight to ten Maoists attacked the security forces, who fired back in retaliation and an exchange of fire took place on December 17.

Though no casualty was reported, the Maoists managed to flee the area taking advantage of the dense forest and difficult terrain.

Following it, the security forces searched the area and located the camp which is suspected to be set up by members of (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division of the CPI (Maoist).

Reportedly, a militia has been detained and is being interrogated on charges of collaborating with the Maoists.
