Sonepur: The Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) on Thursday seized a huge cache of IEDs landmines, other explosives, and electric wires during a joint operation against the outlawed CPI(Maoist) cadres in the Budhakhol forest of Odisha’s Boudh district.
Acting on a tip-off that movement of Maoist cadres was noticed in the forest along the border areas with Kandhamal district, a joint team of the SOG and DVF launched a combing operation in the Budhakol forest. The Maoist cadres opened fire on the joint force seeing them approaching the forest. In retaliation, the SOG and DVF jawans fired at the Maoists forcing them to flee the area.
During the search operation, the joint force unearthed a Maoist dump and seized the explosives.
Earlier, combing operations were carried out in the area twice and Maoist dumps were destroyed. However, after Maoist posters were put up in the Manmunda area on January 5 combing operation was intensified. Three Maoist dumps were destroyed during these combing operations.
