Maoist Encounter: Naveen Patnaik Salutes Martyrdom Of SOG Commandos

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today highly praised the bravery of SOG commandos who gave the supreme sacrifice for the nation and state. On his personal Twitter handle the Chief Minister wrote:

“Salute to the martyrdom of Debashish Sethy of Angul & Sudhir Kumar Tudu of Mayurbhanj who laid down their lives fighting against left wing extremists. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred jawans. #Odisha will remember the sacrifice of its brave sons.”

Sudhir Kumar Tudu (28) belonged to Mayurbhanj district and Debasis Sethy (27) was from Angul district. At least five Maoists, including four women had died in the gunbattle that took place in Odisha’s Bhandarangi Sirki forest area on the Kalahandi-Kandhamal border on Wednesday.

Payin reverence to the bravehearts, Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra said, “The people of Odisha are grief-stricken and the Chief Minister has expressed his deepest condolences on the martyrdom of our bravehearts. I express my tearful condolences to the bereaved families.”

The Chief Minister has instructed to extend immediate assistance to the families with Rs 10 lakh as insurance, Rs 16 lakh as ex-gratia, land and job, added Mishra.

On the basis of reliable intelligence input, an operation was launched on the Kalahandi-Kandhamal border on September 8. Two composite teams of the SOG and the District Voluntary Force (DVF) of the Odisha Police participated in this operation.

DG Police Abhay said, “Naxals attacked on our team and our men responded. Five Maoists were killed while two of our colleagues were martyred. In the last two months, 12 naxals have been killed in encounter with Odisha police which is a significant achievement.”

“Our friends who lost their lives gave the supreme sacrifice to save our nation, state and constitution. Tudu sustained a bullet injury on his chest while Debasis took the bullet on his thigh. Their bravery made this mission successful for the Odisha police,” Abhay added.
