Cuttack: On the sidelines of 61st Police Commemoration Day observance at the State Police Headquarters here today, Odisha DGP stated that the influence of the left wing extremists (LWE) is gradually decreasing while the police administration is in an increasingly better position in Maoist attack scenario.
Soon after paying homage to the martyred jawans, Odisha DGP Abhaya in his media reactions said, “Two of our colleagues made supreme sacrifice in September this year. We’re increasingly in a better position in Maoist attack. The Maoist influence has decreased to a large extent in their respective areas of operation. We have put up our proposal before the Government of India this year to remove our five Maoist-affected districts from SRE (Security Related Expenditure) list. I’m confident that the Maoist influence will keep on decreasing.”
He also mentioned, “I’m grateful to the police personnel doing duty amid the Corona pandemic. We have to fight against the virus with the cooperation of public. I should specially thank our police brethren for leading in plasma donation during this pandemic.”
Responding to media queries, the DGP said, “So far our martyred Corona warriors are concerned, there is a provision for special family pension to the bereft kin. Special Family Pension means the family will draw the salary being drawn at present by the martyr till his/her retirement. Most of them have availed it. Those who have lost lives in the last 15-20 days, the cases are under processing and they will also avail the special family pension soon.”
“The second component of the martyred Corona warriors is that of Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia. For this, Odisha Government has written to the Government of India. Odisha Government has assured that it will be given from the State’s side if the Centre doesn’t approve of the fund,” he added.
