Malkangiri: A Maoist was killed in an encounter by security forces on the Odisha- Chhattisgarh border in Dhamtari district, police said.
A huge cache of explosives was seized from the possession of the dead ultra. The identity of the slain Maoist has not been ascertained.
According to police sources, a gun battle broke out at 3:30 pm in a forest near Muhkot-Aamjhar villages under Khallari police station limits when a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team under Dhamtari Superintendent of Police Anjneya Varshney was out on an anti-Naxalite operation.
With the death of this ultra, 133 Maoists have been gunned down this year in separate encounters with security forces. On May 11, another ultra was killed in an encounter in Dhamtari district.
