Bhubaneswar: A Maoist was killed during a gunfight with security personnel at Sukma district on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on Saturday, police said.
The encounter took place on a forested hill between Tolnai and Tetrai villages when security personnel were carrying out an anti-Maoist operation. The operation was begun on Friday night based on intelligence about the presence of ultras in the area.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chouhan said the district police and DRG Jawan raided the Tolnai forest after receiving information from a special source.
Earlier, at least nine Maoists including two women and seven men surrendered before police in Odisha’s Boudh district on May 8.
