Maoist Surrenders Before Koraput Police

Koraput: A cadre Maosit Sonal Madvi, an area committee member of Gumma area committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the DIG South Western Range, Rajesh Pandit here on Tuesday.

Sonal alias Kiran is a native of Bijapur in Chhatishgarh and was inducted in the CPI (Maoist) organization in 2012 in Pamedu Area Committee,
Chhattisgarh as a Party member. He was given military training in the same year, the police said.

He worked in Nandapur, Gumma, and Pedabayalu area committees from 2012 to 2018. After getting to the rank of ACM in the year 2015, he was armed with an INSAS Rifle and worked in Pedabailu Area Committee, Cut Off LOS under Gumma Area Committee till his arrest by Andhra Pradesh police in 2018.

“After getting released from prison in 2019 May, he joined back in Pedabayalu AC as his wife Talso was still working with Maoists and he was later on transferred to Gumma AC and had been working in it till date,” Pandit said.

After his wife surrendered, Kiran also decided to give up arms. After seeing lot of developmental activities being undertaken by the Government of Odisha, he realized the futility of violent path of Naxalism and thus decided to join the mainstream of the society, the police added.

He will get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha. He will also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade/vocation of his will.
