Kalahandi: The CPI (Maoist) has given a call for a Kalahandi bandh in Odisha on Sunday in protest against the killing of three rebel cadres in a police encounter on May 9.
Several Maoist posters were found in Taperang village under Rampur police limits of the district on Sunday condemning the killing of its cadres in the encounter and seeking support for the bandh. It is believed that the KKBN division of the outlawed Maoists has released posters urging people to observe the day as a people’s movement.
In the posters, the Maoists have described the killing of its cadres as inhumane and condemned the brutality of the police. The outlawed organisation has also pointed fingers at the media for allegedly covering up the brutality and serving the news in the guise of an encounter.
The posters carry the photos of the militants killed in the shootout along with their brief details. The three Maoists who were killed in the encounter are Lalit, Ritu, and Mandhya. Although some parts of the posters written in red ink have been erased due to heavy rain in the area since Saturday night, the incident has created fear among the local villagers who fear retaliation by the red rebels.
