Rayagada: The central committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) called a bandh in Rayagada on Monday alleging that the poor in the district has been neglected for a long. They have also demanded an unemployment allowance worth Rs 3,000 and an increment allowance of Rs 3,000 for the ST/SC communities in the district.
The Maoists have put up posters at Pankalguri near Hanumantpur in Chandrapur block of Rayagada district. The red rebels have blocked the road by cutting a tree, obstructing traffic movement in the area.
The Maoist poster claimed that the poor in the state are deprived of education, health, and housing facilities and demanded that the government do the needful to do away with such alleged anomalies. The Maoists have also demanded the establishment of Adarsha Schools and hospitals in every panchayat of the district.
The other demands of the Maoists include the distribution of forest land among the poor people, the right valuation of forest produce, putting an end to the sale of liquor in the region, and fulfilling the demands of Anganwadi workers and teachers.
